The new Taycan Cross Turismo. Soul, electrified.

04/3/2021

The Taycan family welcomes a bold new arrival in the Cross Turismo, a luxury lifestyle model that combines the unique emission-free architecture of Porsche’s first all-electric sports saloon with even greater versatility and a unique go-anywhere attitude. Years of secretive development that began with the Mission E Cross Turismo concept in 2018 has led to the new Taycan Cross Turismo which dominates with its strong off-road aesthetic, new capabilities and the first all-electric derivative of the Taycan model.

The all-electric vision from Porsche has widened with the introduction of the eagerly anticipated new Taycan Cross Turismo which comes in four derivatives – the Taycan 4, Taycan 4S, Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S. This unprecedented model reaches out to a wider audience of Porsche customers seeking more space and flexibility from their high-performance electric vehicle, alongside the ability to head a little further off the beaten track.

At first glance, the most obvious addition to the Cross Turismo is its extended roof line, offering rear passengers up to 45 mm of extra headroom. The revised total headroom of 979 mm provides a noticeably more comfortable seating position and greater feeling of cabin space, making it ideal for adults and better adapted to long distance travel.

The sense of space in the Taycan Cross Turismo cabin can be further enhanced with an optional fixed panoramic glass roof that extends the length of the car, ensuring that the whole interior is flooded with light while also offering all passengers an even better view of the world around them. This feature also increases the overall headroom to 1,001 mm, a further 22 mm, creating an even more spacious ambiance.

While the Cross Turismo shares its basic driving modes with the Taycan saloon, the former benefits from a new ‘Gravel’ mode that optimises control of a wide range of vehicle components. The Taycan’s unique two-speed transmission and Porsche Traction Management (PTM) work in tandem to ensure that power is provided as appropriate to each of the four wheels, maximising traction even on loose surfaces.

Behind the second row of seats, the Taycan Cross Turismo offers a larger load space than the standard saloon, at 430 litres. This can be significantly expanded further by folding the rear seats, taking the total potential volume of the rear luggage compartment up to 1,196 litres. Loading your luggage is easy thanks to the automatic tailgate which has been carefully designed to optimise access without detracting from the Cross Turismo’s eye-catching and sporty flyline.

Another useful addition to Taycan Cross Turismo is the optional rear-mounted bike carrier. Faster and easier to mount than most conventional systems, loading the carrier itself is also straightforward thanks to a 40 cm clearance between the rails, meaning two bikes can be mounted comfortably side by side, while another rail can be added to accommodate a third if required. Lightweight and extremely compact when folded, the carrier is easy to store, and a maximum load capacity of 50 kg means heavier bikes can still be transported without any problems. The rear-mounted bike carrier is expected to be available from May 2021 onwards.

For those that are looking to go off the beaten track with a high-performance electric vehicle that provides more space and flexibility. The new Taycan Cross Turismo presents a capable package that ensure a mix between practicality and performance.
